 "Let him in!" a voice shouted from behind the door.  She screamed something else out then but Sho couldn't make out the words.  All he could think about was hearing Arrietty on the other side.  He had to get in.  And now this voice was giving him permission.  He looked at the strange boy with the strange tongue. "You heard her," he said, wondering if the boy could even understand him.  "Let me in.  My girlfriend is in there." Not-surprisingly the boy looked puzzled but reached out to grab the door knob, twisting it slowly.  Sho didn't wait for the door to open the entire way but burst past the boy and found Arrietty standing on a desk.

Later that night, as Sho lay in the same bed when he first met Arrietty he reached under his shirt and pulled out a delicate silver chain.  At the end of the chain was a small hair clip, which Arrietty had given to him five years ago, 'for luck' she called it for his then upcoming operation.  When Sho found out that he was going to survive the heart surgery he promised himself that he would never lose that hair clip.  Arrietty had given him the will to live, and the luck to survive.  She was more to him than she would ever come to understand, of that, Sho was sure but he wanted to at least let her know just what a large role she played in his
